Sir Terence David John Pratchett OBE (28 April 1948 – 12 March 2015) was an English humorist, satirist, and author of fantasy novels, especially comical works. He is best known for his Discworld series of 41 novels.
The first Discworld novel, The Colour of Magic, was published in 1983, after which Pratchett wrote an average of two books a year. The final Discworld novel, The Shepherd’s Crown, was published in August 2015, five months after his death.

Once upon a time, in my younger days, I had the utmost pleasure of reading “Echo Chronicles” by Max Fry (I’m not sure if these books were ever translated into English). These books followed a classic storyline, where the main character vanishes from our “normal” world and finds themselves in another realm, brimming with magic and peculiarities. It was an enjoyable and effortless read, filled with magical elements and miraculous escapes.

Later, someone recommended Terry’s Discworld series to me, and I was instantly captivated. Just like today’s click-baiting titles, these books were on a whole other level. Pratchett brought to life an intricately detailed and vibrant world, inhabited by extraordinary characters. I devoured all of his books and immediately started over again — this fantasy realm completely consumed me.

Now, in my middle age, I still have an immense love for these books and occasionally revisit some of them. In my personal opinion, they are so fantastic that the “Harry Potter” series only deserves to support the shelf holding the Discworld books.

If you haven’t read them yet — beware — these books are incredibly thrilling. They may cause you to empty your wallet, lose sleep, and start dreaming of peculiar things, ultimately making you appear “strange” to your friends. However, I assure you that you will learn a great deal, find inner peace, and become a better version of yourself. Plus, you’ll develop a unique fondness for Death, one of the most brilliant characters in Discworld. I personally adore Death the most, and I promise you will too..

So, here we come to «Why “One-Devops-Dog”?».

At the novell “Reaper Man” there was a ghost character One-Man-Bucket, who was a member of a distant tribe with a funny naming convention, and it turned-out to be a short name with the full name of One-Man-Pouring-A-Bucket-Of-Water-Over-Two-Dogs — what his mother seen first after giving a birth to him. In this chapter, there’s a hilarious joke that I won’t spoil for you — seriously, go read it.

So One-Devops-Dog is a short name for One-Devops-Blown-Up-His-Wellbeing-And-Gone-Sailing-With-His-Dog.

Guess why the boat is (not yet, but will be) named Great A’Tuin.

PS: And you know what? I’ve born the same day with Terry. What a chance!
